ResNet is a residence-wide computer network that provides access to university resources and the Internet throughout the residence halls.

ResNet uses software called Safe Connect to ensure a safe and reliable network environment. The Safe Connect Agent will scan your computer on a regular basis to ensure that it meets all of the ResNet requirements before granting access.

For Questions concerning ResNet, please contact the ResNet Helpdesk

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Logon to the Network

Enter your username and password to logon to the network.

If you do not have your username and password, please click here

  1. Download the Safe Connect Agent (only for the first time)

Once your username and password have been verified, you will be prompted to download and install the Safe Connect Agent.

To confirm the installation worked, on Windows machines with Windows 2000 or later, you can right-click any blank space on the task bar at the bottom of your screen and select the option "Task Manager". When the Windows Task Manager appears, click the "Processes" tab and look for the process "SCClient.exe". Mac users can use the Activity Monitor to check for the "SCClient.exe" running. If the Safe Connect Agent fails to install, please see Troubleshooting section or contact the ResNet Helpdesk.

  1. Validating and Updating

The Safe Connect Agent will automatically validate your system configuration to ensure that you have current operating system patches, anti-virus and other security updates.

If the validation is successful, you will be logged onto the network.

If the validation is not successful, you will be directed to a remediation site such as Windows Updates. You need to update your system or security files at that time.  Depending on the security updates, you may need to reboot your computer several times.

Installing the Safe·Connect PolicyKey

·         Convenient Initial Access Process:

o    You can connect via wired or wireless.  Wireless does not have to be disabled if you are connecting via wired.  To begin the install process, you must first login to the network.  Opening your web browser will redirect you to the Authentication page.

o    Safe Connect does not require that your machine be patched, or have AV installed before the PolicyKey is installed.

o    Authentication is required for network access.  The authentication page looks  like this:

o    On successful authentication, you are automatically presented the PolicyKey download page. This only appears for users who have not already installed the PolicyKey.

The lightweight PolicyKey installer, around 1.5 MB in size, begins to download immediately when you click
Yes, I will install
.

o    Safe Connect automatically determines which kind of PolicyKey you need, among legacy Windows, Vista, and Mac OS 10 Operating systems.

o    Choose either Save or Run when the installer download dialogue appears, then run the installer:

o    The installer takes anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds to run, depending on your machine.

o    Once installed, the PolicyKey does its initial assessment within about 5 seconds (a very conservative estimate).

·     User-friendly Remediation: If your machine is not compliant with any of our policies, the PolicyKey will pop a web page that clearly states the infraction and provides instructions and/or links for remediation.  All remediation resources remain accessible, this includes offsite antivirus, antispyware vendors and Microsoft updates.

·     Continuous Post-admission Assessment: Notification pages are presented for one infraction at a time.  You will automatically be notified of any remaining infractions after you remediate the first offense. NOTE: The PolicyKey does not need to be reinstalled or reinitialized after you comply with policy.  All assessments are reported, and responded to, automatically in realtime.
