Q. Where is Network & Computer Services located?
A: Network & Computer Services is located in the basement of the E.Y. Berry Library, L006. Across from KBHU TV.

 
Q. I am installing Office 2000 on my home computer. How do I do this?

Q. What does NCS do?
A: Network Security and Administration.
    Email services for students, staff, and faculty.
    Technical Support for University Computer Systems.
    Internet Service to the University.
    Technical Support for Special Projects.
    Technical Consultation to University Staff and Faculty.

 
Q. How do I log on to BHSU computers?
A: Faculty and Staff log on with your first name and last name, with no spaces such as:  firstname.lastname@bhsu.edu. Put in your password. If you do not know it, contact NCS. Make sure your domain is BLACKHILLS if you do not enter your full email address for the username.

Student logon ID's are firstname.lastname@yellowjackets.bhsu.edu.

You can retrieve your user name and password info by clicking here. If all of these are correct and you still cannot log on contact Network & Computer Services.

 
Q. How do I change the default font in MS Word?
A: 1. Open Microsoft Word
    2. Click Format on the menu bar
    3. Click Font
    4. Select the Font and Sizes you would like.
    5. Click the Default button.
    This is now the default font for all new documents.

 
Q. How do I create a folder in MS Outlook?
A: 1. Click File
    2. Highlight New
    3. Click Folder
    4. 3 items to verify before you click OK.
        a. Type the name you would like for your new folder.
        b. Select the type of information you will be saving to this folder.
        c. Most of the times it will be mail items.
    5. Select the location you would like to place your new folder within Outlook.
    6. If you would like it to be a main folder, click Personal Folders from the list.
    7. If you want it to be a subfolder, click the folder name you want it to be a
    subfolder in.
    8. Click OK
    9. If you would like Outlook to place an icon on your Outlook bar. Click yes on
    the Add Shortcut to Outlook bar message.

 
Q. How do I send attached files using MS Outlook? 
A: Did you know that if you are working in a document in an Office Program and
    you wanted to send it to someone using e-mail, you can send it from your
    program.
    1.
Send an Office Document as File Attachments
          a. Open the document in your office program
          b. Click File, To select more than one file, Click on the first file Hold down
               the Ctrl button on the keyboard and click and release on the additional
               file(s).
          c. Click Send.
     2. If your e-mail program is open after a few seconds a message will appear.
     3. If your e-mail program is not open, it will first prompt you for a profile.
          a. Click Ok to the profile message
          b. Type your password if prompt
          c. A new message will now appear
     3. Complete the message information and then send the message.

 
Q. How do I send a Blind Courtesy Copy (BCC)?
A: 1. Begin a new message
    2. Click View
    3. Click Bcc Field
    4. This will enable this feature until you click it again to turn it off.

 
Q. How do I change the default address book MS Outlook?
A: 1. From the default view
    2. Select the Tools menu
    3. Click Address Book
    4. Click Tools menu on the Address Book dialog box, and select Options.
    5. Select which address book you would like to have as your default (Show this
        address list first).
    6. Click Ok

 
Q. How do I add a contact to my Contacts in MS Outlook?
A: 1. When you receive an e-mail from the individual
    2. Right Click on their name within the message header
    3. Click Add to Contacts from the Shortcut menu.
    4. Or, Click the Address Book button on the toolbar
    5. Click the First button on the toolbar (new entry)
    6. To add an off campus address click Internet Address
    7. Click Ok
    8. The Alias is the name of the individual. This is how it is sorted within your
        list.
    9. The SMTP is the address. Make sure you type the address correctly. This
        includes capitalization.
    10. Click Ok

 
Q. How do I create a Distribution List in MS Outlook?
A: 1. Click the Address Book button on the toolbar
    2. Click the First button on the toolbar (new entry)
    3. Click Distribution List
    4. Click Ok
    5. Type the name you would like for your list.
    6. Click the Add/Remove Members button
    7. Select the members from any address book. (Post Office, Global or
        Personal)
    8. When you have your members view on the right side on the screen
    9. Click Ok
    10. This will then add them to your list.
    11. Click Ok

 
Q. How do I change my email format to use MS Word MS?
A: 1. Click Tools
    2. Click Options
    3. Click the Mail Format Tab
    4. Click the Send in this Message Format down arrow.
    5. Click Microsoft Word
    6. Click Ok

 
Q. How do I change default options in MS Outlook?
A: 1. From the Inbox
    2. Click Tools
    3. Click Options
    4. Select the component of Outlook you would like to change.
    5. Follow through your screens to make the changes you would like.
    6. Click Ok when finished

 
Q. How do I create a new Calendar item in MS Outlook?
A: 1. Click the Calendar Icon on the Outlook bar
    2. Select the date for your appointment from the calendar on the right.
    3. Click and drag on the daily view to select the time you would like your
        appointment to be.
    4. Click the first button on the toolbar
    5. Make any additions to your appointment. Reminder, Subject Line, Location,
        Reoccurring, Attendees
    6. Click Ok

 
Q. How do I create a personal folder in MS Outlook?
A: 1.  On the File menu, point to New, and then click Outlook Data File.
    2.  To create a Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) that offers greater
         storage capacity for items and folders and supports multilingual data, click
         OK.

For compatibility with earlier versions of Outlook, under Types of storage, click Microsoft Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst), and then click OK.

    3.  In the File name box, type a name for the file, and then click OK.

    4.  In the Name box, type a display name for the .pst folder.

    5.  Select any other options you want, and then click OK.
   Password information

If you are creating a .pst file, you can add a password of up to 15 characters. Use strong passwords that combine upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Weak passwords don't mix these elements. Strong password: Y6dh!et5. Weak password: House27. Use a strong password that you can remember so that you don't have to write it down.

The name of the folder associated with the data file appears in the Folder List (Folder List: Displays the folders available in your mailbox. To view subfolders, click the plus sign (+) next to the folder. If the Folder List is not visible, on the Go menu, click Folder List.). By default, the folder will be called Personal Folders.

    6.  Drag any item from your current folders to the new folder.

 
Q. How do I edit my BHSU website?

Q. How do I change my password?
A: There are several options for changing your password.

If you are on campus and logged into the BLACKHILLS domain, you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select the "Change Password" option. Simply enter your old password once and your new password twice and select OK.

You may change your password through BHSU Outlook Web Access (web mail) by logging in and selecting the "Options" in the lower left hand corner. Scroll down on the options page. You will see a button labeled "Change Password." Click the button and fill in the information.

**NOTE: ALL OF THE OPTIONS ABOVE WILL CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD FOR NETWORK/EMAIL/RESNET/LIBRARY DATABASES. YOU CANNOT USE ANY OF YOUR PREVIOUS TEN PASSWORDS. PASSWORD MUST BE A MINIMUM OF SIX CHARACTERS.

Q. How do I login to view my quarantine messages?

Q. How do I approve or reject email senders using BHSU's anti-spam server?

Q. Can I use wireless Internet on campus?
A: Yes. Wireless Internet is available for all faculty, staff, and students in the Student Union market place, Jacket Legacy Room, E.Y. Berry Library, YC common area, Meier Hall common area, and Jonas computer labs. The SSID (network ID) is "HotSpot" Click here for campus wireless maps.

 
Q. How do I configure my Outlook or Outlook Express at home for POP3, IMAP?
A: Faculty/Staff, you can use Outlook or Outlook Express to download your campus mail at home. Choose the protocol you want to use. Incoming mail server (POP3 and IMAP) is mail.bhsu.edu. Outgoing SMTP server is mail.bhsu.edu. The outgoing mail server requires authentication. You can select to use the same settings as your incoming mail server or put your username and password in the space provided. If you do not use mail.bhsu.edu as your outgoing SMTP mail server, your mail sent to an @bhsu.edu or @yellowjackets.bhsu.edu address will be quarantined by Proofpoint.

A: Students, you can access your e-mail using Outlook. Outlook provides an optimized e-mail and collaboration experience.

Q. Using Windows Vista to check your BHSU Email with IE 7? Click here for the fix.
A: Logon to your BHSU email through Outlook Web Access. In the lower left-hand corner, click Options. Scroll down to Email Security and click Download. Select Run and install the S/MIME control. Once the install is complete, restart your browser. Log back on to your BHSU email. If you see the yellow bar at the top of the screen when creating a new message or replying, you need to right click it and allow the Active X control to run (install).

 
Q. I need information for Windows Updates, Spyware, spam, or pop-ups.
