Biographical Note

Eight women in Black Hawk, S.D. formed The Friendly Circle Club on Feb.10, 1938 as the “Black Hawk Senior Club”. It was a sewing club at first and during World War II made items for the Red Cross and others. Membership has expanded over the years and much community work has been done. For years members cleaned the Valley View Cemetery annually. Donations were made to the groups such as the Salvation Army, the Black Hawk Community Church, the March of Dimes, nursing homes and many others. The group became the Friendly Circle Club in 1946 and gained a meeting place when the Black Hawk Supper Club opened for business. Over the years, different generations of the same family have joined the Friendly Circle Club.
