I cannot access Westlaw database from my computer. I receive an error, "You are not authorized to use this sponsor.
If you know your Westlaw password, click here to sign on to westlaw.com." How should I resolve this error?
This error is generally caused due to an incompatibility between Westlaw website and computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you receive this error, please configure your Internet Explorer browser as described in the video clip. You will need to download the Camtasia player to watch this video clip. You can also download the following Word handout that will help you configure your browser. Please contact us if the problem is still not resolved.
I get a login screen when I try to
search a database via the library site from home.
What are my username and password?
Only registered students, faculty, and staff of BHSU
are allowed to access databases using off-campus computers.
When prompted, please enter your BHSU e-mail address
as your username and type in the password that you
use to login to a BHSU computer or to access your
BHSU e-mail.
Your Username: Type in your
BHSU e-mail address (example: johndoe@bhsu.edu or
johnmdoe@st.bhsu.edu).
Your Password: Type in the password that
you use to login to a BHSU computer or to access your
BHSU e-mail.
I am a new student and do not have
a BHSU e-mail address. How can I search research databases
from an off-campus computer?
All newly registered students should retrieve their
BHSU e-mail address and password from the online system available at https://iis.bhsu.edu/studentlogin/index.cfm.
This information is also required to login to any
student computer located at the library.
My BHSU e-mail address and password
do not work when I try to access a database from home.
What should I do?
Your e-mail address should be active in the system
in order to search databases that are available for
off-campus
use. If you have problems,
then contact Technical Support Services personally
or by phone
or online. The office is located in the basement
of the BHSU Library.
I get a message stating "This
page cannot be displayed" when I click a database
link from my home computer. How can I resolve this
problem?
This error could be due to several reasons. Please
try the following steps:
1) Make sure you are using a current version of a Web
browser that supports 128 bit SSL encryption. We recommend using Internet
Explorer 6.
2) Make sure that SSL support is enabled
in your browser. In Internet Explorer, click "Tools"
on the top menu and select "Internet Options"
from the dropdown list. Choose "Advanced"
tab on the dialog box. Toward the bottom, you will
find checkboxes for "Use SSL 1.0", "Use
SSL 2.0" and "Use TLS 1.0". Select
these three boxes if they are not already selected.
Close the current browser window and open a new browser
window. Try accessing the database again.
3) Delete your temporary Internet files
and cookies. In Internet Explorer, click "Tools"
on the top menu and select "Internet Options"
from the dropdown list. The buttons for deleting temporary
Internet files and cookies are in the middle of the
General tab of the dialog box. Click those buttons.
Close the current browser window and open a new browser
window. Try accessing the database again.
4) Turn off the personal firewall (such
as Norton Internet Security or Zone Alarm), if installed
on your computer. Open a new browser window and try
accessing the database again.
5) Try accessing the database later after restarting
the computer.
6) Please e-mail
us with a description if your problem still is
not resolved.
Are my username and password secured for accessing databases
off-campus?
Yes. The library authentication system uses the
industry's best encryption technology (128 bit
SSL) to encrypt your username (BHSU e-mail address)
and password.
Can I search all databases from
my home computer?
You can search all databases that the library subscribes
to except Ancestry Plus and Foundation Center.
