
E. Y. Berry Library-Learning Center is a major resource
center at Black Hills State University housing over
235,000 book volumes and 70,000 government documents.
Micromaterials, including microfiche and microfilm,
combine to add over 635,000 volumes of additional
resource materials. These include the Cox Collection,
which is a unique collection of nearly 2,225 volumes
of state, county, and local histories from throughout
the United States during mid 19th century through
World War II. The Library of American Civilization
is a collection of 10,000 volumes on the earliest
history of our country to the outbreak of World War
I. The Library of English Literature contains approximately
7,000 volumes tracing the literature from earliest
times in England through the 19th century.
The first part of general book collection and
curriculum collection are located on the first
floor, beginning the A's of the Library of Congress
classification system. The upper floor, reached
either by stairs or elevator for the handicapped,
contains the general book collection, periodicals,
government documents, and Special Collections.
The Lelend
D. Case Library of Western Historical Studies
is a part of Special
Collections area. This non-circulating library
contains various types of materials, including books,
periodicals, maps, manuscripts, and clippings. The
Case Library of Special Collections has great resources
related to the history of the Black Hills and surrounding
area, with its many subject areas. Many donors throughout
the country have contributed to this library. The
ARROW Native American materials are also included
in this library. E.Y.
Berry Collection of Special Collections contains
files, official papers, and other materials related
to E.Y. Berry for the years he served as a Congressman
(1950-1970). The BHSU
archives contains the history of Black Hills State
University from its beginning as the oldest institution
of higher learning in South Dakota to the current
time.
The library collection can be searched and accessed
using SDLN system that Black Hills State University
pioneered for the state of South Dakota. South
Dakota Library Network (SDLN) is located on
the lower floor of the library with Technical
Support Services and BHSU radio station.
